The Yellow-Spotted Lizard is a venomous creature that inhabits the arid, dusty-dirty wasteland of Camp Green Lake. Each lizard has bright-yellow eyes, black venomous teeth, red-rimmed eyelids, a milky white tongue, a scale colour ranging from a greenish colour, an orange colour, and a yellow colour, and exactly 11 spots. It is said that by the time you get close enough to count the spots, you will likely already be dead. A Yellow-Spotted Lizard is incredibly venomous, with its venom being potent enough to cause a slow and painful death to anyone bitten, with no known antivenom and a 100% fatality rate. Interestingly, the lizards have a strong dislike for onions. Stanley Yelnats IV and Zero (Hector Zeroni) were both saved by this because they had eaten a large amount of onions before being trapped in the hole with the lizards. Sam had, coincidentally, also made an onion tonic for this same purpose, which prevented the lizards from biting the drinker, since they hate 'onion blood.' it has a strong claw that can latch on the jagged rocks
Camp Green Lake was shut down and reopened as a Girl Scout camp (much to Mr. Sir's chagrin, due to Mr. Sir previously saying "This isn't a Girl Scout camp."). The Girl Scouts were instructed to eat lots of onions.
The actual lizards used in the film were Bearded Dragons, which are harmless and nonvenomous. Nine Bearded Dragon lizards were on call for parts of the lizards in the film. A non-toxic children's finger paint was used on the lizards to make them appear bright in colour and computers helped create some of the lizard action and production created fake life-like lizards for some of the other scenes.
