- "Maybe my mom will stop drinking and my dad will come home."
- ―Squid talking to the others
Alan is a camper at Camp Green Lake.
Before Camp Green Lake
Alan was sent to Camp Green Lake for beating up a police officer who had confiscated his beer bottle.
At Camp Green Lake
Squid is a member of D-tent. At Camp Green Lake he received the nickname "Squid" for farting a lot. When Stanley Yelnats IV arrived at Camp Green Lake, the two didn't talk much. When Squid sees Stanley sending a letter to his parents, he takes the letter, crumples it up, and throws it out saying to Stanley "They don't care, believe me, they're glad that they got rid of you." This gives the idea that his parents and he have a bad relationship. Then later in the movie, he says "Maybe my mom will stop drinking and my dad will come home." This gives proof to the fact that his parents and he had a bad relationship.
After Camp Green Lake
After being released from Camp Green Lake, Squid was seen hanging out with Stanley and his friends at Stanley's new home.
